June 4, 2003 The organizing committee of the Electronic Sports World Cup provides additional information about the Quake III 1on1 Invitational tournament which will take place during the Electronic Sports World Cup, July 8-13, 2003, in Poitiers, France.
The organizing committee of the Electronic Sports World Cup is sad to inform you that Fatal1ty will not attend the Quake III 1on1 Invitational tournament. Im focusing on Unreal Tournament 2003 now and I would love to try to attend your UT2003 event instead of the Q3 Event, said Johnathan Fatal1ty Wendel.
The reasons behind are the inability to train correctly in both games and his refusal to accept his invitation for free airfare only. Im not about to start showing up to events where I dont train at all for it just because I got free airfare and the chance to travel the world. When I go to tournaments, I go to win, he explained.
However, Fatal1ty has confirmed that he will try to qualify for the Unreal Tournament 2003 by participating in the USA Preliminaries of the Electronic Sports World Cup. I know a lot of people were probably counting on me to show up, but hopefully Ill make it there for the UT2003 event, he said.
Since Fatal1tys invitation has been cancelled, the organizing committee of the Electronic Sports World Cup has decided to provide the invitation to Andrew Python Cha Cha from Australia in order to cover his travel expenses and ensure his attendance. As Python had already been selected through his candidate application, the remaining spot in the candidates list will be provided to Chris Blokey Hoare from the United Kingdom.
